Community Profile

Located in the northwest corner of Hanover County, Virginia, Beaverdam is a beautiful place to call home! Situated where the Tidewater merges with the Piedmont Region, our school is only 30 miles northwest of Richmond, 90 miles south of Washington D.C., and 60 miles east of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Although the original inhabitants of Beaverdam, the Powhatan Indians no longer call it home. This area of Hanover County maintains much of the natural beauty and wealth that made it an ideal homestead for the Powhatan.

As a growing rural community, Beaverdam’s economy still revolves around farming (grain, hay, and dairy cattle), lumber milling, and quarrying. Some of our major employers include Dominion Energy at North Anna Power Station, Tyson Foods, and Paramount's Kings Dominion theme park. Our student body is socioeconomically diverse. Some students live in town on 1/4 acre lots while others live on thousand-acre farms. Many students live on land that has been in their family for generations adding to the area's historical significance. Only 27% of Beaverdam students qualify for free or reduced-priced lunches.
