Reading Olympics

Reading Olympians group 1Every year, Reading Olympics (RO) inspires students at BES to stretch their reading muscles and try different types of books by offering friendly competitions to check for reading comprehension.

This year’s RO list will be available the day of the RO kick off on October 10. If you are interested in being a Reading Olympics coach or would like information about signing your child up for RO this year, please contact Ms. Macpherson. Be sure to view our brochure to get all of the details on this wonderful program!

Expectations for Students

  • You will train as hard as possible by reading as many titles as you can understand and enjoy.
  • Each team member is responsible for reading at least five Reading Olympics books to help the team reach the goal of reading all 32 books.
  • You may want to challenge yourself to read all 32 books!
  • When you finish a title, you complete some form of documentation (Q&A sheet or graphic organizer). You will not receive credit for the book until you have successfully completed some form of documentation.
  • Once you turn in your documentation for completing a book, your team will be counting on you to answer the questions on the competition day.
  • Read carefully and take your time. You may take notes while you read and use them during your documentation – not the competition.
  • There are over 100 olympians sharing the books in the library. In the spirit of good sportsmanship, return books as soon as you are finished using them.
  • You may take breakfast to meetings.
  • Olympians must attend eight of the 10 regular meetings during school in order to participate in the competition.
